As discussed in the equipment page, you should have a rear-wheel drive car that has at minimum a welded diff, manual transmission, and preferably coilover to stiffen the ride. It is also important to note that you should never practice drifting on public roads or parking lots that are not empty. When attempting to drift i would recommend getting comfortable with doughnuts first. You can do doughnuts around a stationary object (not your buddy) or just do your best to maintain track. To start a doughnut you will want to turn the wheel as far as possible while driving in 1st gear and kick the clutch while simultaneously releasing the steering wheel. You will then likely feel the point at which you should grab the wheel again and attempt to correct, at this point you will begin to be able to control the car with the combination of steering and throttle control. Once you can do normal doughnuts you should move on to adjusting the size of your doughnut(this may require use of 2nd gear), while sliding in circles, use the brake/steering and throttle to do bigger/samller doughnuts. Once you are confident with doughnuts, you should move on to figure 8's. Figure 8's are a little more complicated because it involves transferring the cars weight and changing the cars direction without looping out. The best thing to remember about figure 8's is that you will need to let go of the wheel like you would do in doughnuts to let the car swing around. It is also helpful to let off the gas at a point in this process. To much throttle will cause the oversteer and make the car loopout. Once you get good at these you are ready to hit some corners! Don't get discouraged as you are bound to spend lots of time spinning out, give the video below a watch and remember, be safe about it and have fun!
